William (Bill) J. Savolt, of Mamaroneck, NY and Raymond, ME, formerly of New Rochelle, NY.
Born in Garden City, Kansas on July 28, 1920 to John and Eva (Keiser) of Holcomb, KS (originally from Russia). Mr. Savolt was a Sergeant in the US Army Infantry in World War II from Oct. 1940 to June 1945 when he was honorably discharged. While serving, he was seriously wounded in action in France in October, 1944, for which he received the Purple Heart. He married Janet P. Murphy in 1945. He worked for the New Rochelle Post Office before retiring in 1972. In retirement, he worked in the Iona College mailroom for many years.
He is survived by his wife, and loving children, Karen and James O’Brien, Wappingers Fall, NY; Kathleen Savolt and Len Aubrey, Mamaroneck, NY; Patricia Savolt and Mike Hershkowitz, Colfax, NC; Joan and Hans Seidl, Duluth GA and William E. and Karen Savolt of Fishkill, NY. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Erin O’Brien, Shannon and Dave Morris ; Suzanne and Zach Cerrone and Robert Savolt as well as several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his 15 brothers and sisters. Mr. Savolt was active in the Military Order of the Purple Heart Chapter #21, where he served as Commander twice. He was a member of the Elks Lodge #756, New Rochelle, NY and was named Elk of the Year in 1978. He was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Disabled American Veterans and the American Legion Post 90.
Friends may call on Tuesday from 2-4PM & 7-9PM at the Coxe & Graziano Funeral Home, 767 E. Boston Post Rd., Mamaroneck, NY where services will be held Wednesday 10:30AM. Interment will be private.
