It’s Memorial Day Weekend – and there’s plenty to do for the whole family around theLoop. Local governments are hosting parades and ceremonies,

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

while various venues are offering opportunities to get outside and enjoy the weather.

 

HOLIDAY

 

Larchmont’s Memorial Day Parade takes place before the weekend—Thursday, at 7 p.m. It will start at Lot 3 of the train station and end at Village Hall. www.villageoflarchmont.org

 

The Village of Mamaroneck will be hosting a Memorial Day Parade on Sunday at 4:15 p.m. The parade will proceed down Mamaroneck Ave. For more information about village holiday ceremonies: www.village.mamaroneck.ny.us

 

Rye’s Memorial Day Ceremony takes place on the Village Green, on Monday at 10 a.m. As part of the city’s tradition, Post 128 of the American Legion will lead the event. www.ryeny.gov

 

New Rochelle’s Memorial Day Parade begins at 10:30 a.m. at Memorial Plaza this Monday. The parade will conclude at Hudson Park. www.newrochelleny.com

 

Scarsdale’s 65th annual Memorial Day Service and Parade beings at 9:30 a.m. on Monday. The parade will commence at Boniface Circle. www.scarsdale.com

 

Playland will hold Veterans and Service Member Appreciation Day this Sunday. The ceremony starts at 2:30 p.m. at the Music Tower Theater. There will be a live “raid” helicopter demonstration at 3 p.m. www.ryeplayland.org

 

FAMILY & OUTDOOR

 

Early bird? Get out early at the Marshlands Conservancy in Rye this Saturday and see how many of the 299 bird species you can see during the 7:30 a.m. Spring Migration Bird Walk. Bring your binoculars or borrow a pair to get the most out of the birding adventure. www.westchestergov.com

 

Use your county park pass to check out Glen Island Beach in New Rochelle this weekend. It’s open pre-seasonally for now, so beat the crowds! The beach is open on Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. $4 general admission; $3 children 5-11; $4 parking. www.westchestergov.com

 

Van Cortlandt Manor in Croton-on-Hudson is hosting Animals & Acrobats this Saturday through Monday, 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. It’s better than ever, with acrobats, comedians, dancing, live animals, fortune tellers, magicians and more. The Larchmont Farmers’ Market opens this Saturday from 8:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. Twenty-for vendors will be at the Metro North Parking Deck #3, serving up serving up baked goods, wine, meet, cheese, desserts and more through the end of the season. www.communitymarkets.biz

 

Scarsdale’s Greenburgh Nature Center is holding a free Highlights Tour this Sunday at 11:30 a.m. You’ll get an in depth look of the gardens and grounds, and learn about the highlights of the 33-acre spread. Trail maps will be provided. www.greenburghnaturecenter.org

 

The Rye Farmers’ Market also opens this weekend. From 8:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. on Sunday in Parking Lot 2 of 73 Purchase Street, vendors will be selling everything from baked goods to meat to handmade soaps and wine. www.communitymarkets.biz

 

Playland presents Erik’s Reptile Edventures in Kiddyland this Sunday at 2, 3:30, 5 and 6:30 p.m. There will be 12 live reptiles, amphibians and bugs to interact with, including roaches from Madagascar and pythons from Asia. www.ryeplayland.org

Lakeshore Learning Materials in Scarsdale is hosting a Free Crafts for Kids event this Saturday from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. Pre-school and elementary-age kids can socialize while making unique arts and crafts projects. www.lakeshorelearning.com

 

Don’t miss the last few days of In Bound, new paintings by David Collins at Kenise Barnes Fine Art in Larchmont. The exhibit will be available for viewing Thursday through Saturday, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m., and by appointment. www.kenisebarnesfineart.com
