MAMARONECK –Police have identified the victim of an accidental drowning at Harbor Island’s beach in Mamaroneck as 28 year old Larvell Paylor of Mount Vernon, N.Y.

His body was recovered at 4:00 am Monday after an eight hour effort by the Coast Guard, Nassau County, New Rochelle Police Department, Westchester County Department of Public Safety, Mt. Pleasant Police Department, Somers Fire Department, and the NYPD.

Records indicate the victim was on parole for  a robbery.

Paylor disappeared in the waters off of Harbor Island Beach on Sunday afternoon, which police say was marked  “Swimming Prohibited,” and a search began about 7:00 pm, when the beach was roped off and emergency workers were wading through waist-deep water.

Search boats from local police and fire departments and the Coast Guard were also present.

LoHud reports several people identified by fire officials as members of the victim’s family alternately paced and sat just beyond the beach’s entrance. One of them, a woman, could be heard sobbing.

The man had been swimming with his girlfriend.

  1. My thoughts go out to the people in the village/town as we try to deal with this emotionally . . . it takes time. Also, condolences to the person’s family/friends/girlfriend.

  2. in a report of this drowning which makes no mention of alleged foul why is it reported that the victim has a criminal record? Has the Loop adopted the policy that all its reports will now include whether the subject has a criminal record?
