Signs, Sealed, Delivered

Ever wonder about that guy on the horse that greets you every time you enter the Village of Larchmont?

You can thank a famous sculptor, and, more recently, the local Rotary Club.

The fresh new Rotary signs are posted on metal frames that are topped with a sculpture of Neptune riding a sea horse by local artist  C. Paul Jennewein. See below for more history on this.

The Rotary Club features speakers most Fridays who present information of interest to the community and club members. Guests are welcome any Friday.  Rotary International has over 1.2 million members worldwide in 33,000 clubs in 200 nations.

Jennewein’s silhouette of Neptune riding a sea horse:
Noted classical and art deco sculptor C. Paul Jennewein lived in Larchmont, New York, from 1924 until his death in 1978, at age 88. Jennewein designed the Neptune silhouettes that have marked the Larchmont Village limits for decades and the bronze statue incorporated into the War Memorial in front of Mamaroneck Village Hall.
Jennewein was born in Stuttgart, Germany, in 1890. Apprenticed to artisans at the Stuttgart art museum at age 13, he learned techniques of casting, modeling, and painting. When he was 16, Jennewein saw illustrations of work by the noted American architectural firm, McKim, Mead & White. After moving to the United States he became a U.S. citizen in 1915-Jennewein worked for the firm of architectural sculptors and commercial modelers, Buhler and Lauter, which was often used by McKim, Mead & White.

  1. Rick and crew are to be thanked for much of what they do every day to keep Larchmont Larchmont.

  2. Thanks should go to Rick Vetere & the Village of Larchmont DPW for installing, repairing & repainting all the sign post & signs.

At the very least give credit where credit is due & for the great job they did on all the signs. As always it makes Larchmont Village look great.
    Thanks.
