As you may know, the Larchmont Playhouse is up for sale – and there could potentially be a bid from a developer who won’t preserve this 1930’s era theatre, and what many of us find to be a great community asset.

The Picture House in Pelham, an historic theatre built in 1921 that was successfully transformed in 2005 into a single screen theatre and center for the film arts, has started a Kickstarter campaign to see if Larchmont residents are interested in having The Picture House help save the theater.

One idea they are considering:  one film center in two historic theaters 5 miles apart, linked by Metro North.

This Kickstarter page provides a lot more information. This may be a great opportunity for us all.

  2. A wonderful idea.
The article refers to a Kickstarter page, but provides no link to it, nor does it provide an internet address. Please provide.

  3. Having grown up in Larchmont and now residing in Northern Westchester I can tell you that I have fond memories of going to the movies at the Larchmont Playhouse and have been a member of Jacob Burns Film Center which is a great asset to our community. If there is a way to transition the Larchmont Playhouse to an art film/independent film house, I am 100% in and plan on contributing to the cause.
