RYE– The iconic Carousel at Rye Playland is closed for the rest of the year following the fire there July 9.

Westchester County Deputy Parks Commissioner Peter Tartaglia tells the Journal News that the fire Sunday was caused by an electrical spark from a light at the base of the carousel’s domed roof.

Some of the wooden horses sustained water damage, but were not burned.

Westchester County already had planned to renovate the 102-year-old carousel.

Playland, as you may know, is the only Art Deco amusement park in the country.
