Rumorville: Business is Growing

Two local businesses, Clarke Auction and Galleries and The Voracious Reader, are bucking the tide and ‘upsizing’.

Monday, June 28, Clarke will hold its last auction at its long-time warehouse space at the end of North Avenue in Larchmont (running parallel to the RR behind Palmer Avenue) and will soon move to 2372 Boston Post Road next to La Riserva.

"It’s a spectacular new place," says Tom Curran of Clarke Galleries.

If you are coming to the auction, mention "theLoop" for a free catalogue.

Then, there is one of our favorite bookstores, The Voracious Reader on Palmer Avenue. Owner Francine Lucidon is planning to bust on through the wall and expand into the now-empty storefront next door.  There she will be serving food… "tea and crumpets and treats like that, really in the sprit of The Voracious Reader," she says.

By the way, Voracious is now donating 10 percent of its daily sales on the first Thursday of each month to a charity or non-profit chosen by you. E-mail your submissions explaining the worthiness and need of your cause. If your entry is chosen, this Books for Good program will take care of the donation.

  1. Toy Box is a wonderful community business. I have been shopping there for 12 years. 3 sons and hundreds of birthday parties later, I continue to find them to be helpful and customer-focused.

  2. thank you to all my loyal customers and friends for your continued patronage. I sincerely appreciate it, and promise to always make your shopping experience at the Toybox an excellent one. Our motto is SERVICE, SERVICE, SERVICE.

We are going to be expanding our selection of merchandise shortly to accomodate children of all ages.

Again, thank you and I look forward to seeing you all within the near future.

If there is anything anyone needs and cannot find in my store, please do not hesitate to ask me directly. I will do my best to accommodate everyone.

    Sincerely,

    Steven Josephson

  3. I love Voracious Reader AND Toy Box. I, like Mom of Three, have had more than a decade of good experiences at Toy Box.
Really happy that Voracious Reader is doing well enough to expand!

  4. I’ve been a patron of Toy Box for over a dozen years and Steve and his staff have always been very helpful. You do get the personalized touch you don’t get at the R Us place, it’s convenient, they always had the “hot” toy my kids wanted, and wrapped presents for free. Sorry if “neighbor” had a bad experience, but I have over a decade of good ones. They have always been there for me in a pinch with those last-minute birthday party gifts.

  5. Congratulations to Voracious! The staff there is always helpful and appreciative of the business (unlike the Toy Box, for instance). No surprise they are successful!
