Fox News reports the protester that had been hanging from the Tappan Zee bridge fell into the Hudson River Monday afternoon and was rescued by a fireboat.

Michael Davitt was dangling by an orange rope off the Westchester County-bound side of the Tappan Zee Bridge, about halfway between the bottom of the span and the water.

He was holding a sign expressing anger towards Rockland County Executive C. Scott Vanderhoef and the Rockland Legislature.

Traffic reports said cars were backing up along the New York state Thruway for miles through Rockland County during the day.
