Rumorville: Pizza in, Heroes out.

These hardy peeps were cooking up pizzas on Palmer Avenue Tuesday night…and creating pizzas to order for you to bring home and bake,

because that’s the business model for the Homemade Pizza Co ., and what you will find at the new store in Larchmont. The Chicago-based chain also recently opened a store in Rye. That’s founder and CEO Eric Fosse holding the basil pie. Tuesday night they gave away a reported 250 of them.

We asked Regional Manager Matthew Nicholson why they chose to expand into New York with Larchmont and Rye.

“Many people here,” says Nicholson, “lead active healthy lives. We were looking for places where people like fresh food, and activities like yoga. That’s who we appeal to. We also value family…and like that this is close to the train!”

Said resident Debra Quintana, “There was a long line of people waiting in the bitter cold.  The founders of the Chicago chain were standing outside cooking up pizza and giving free samples.  They also came out with hot cider.  It was really cold out there.”

Must be the Lake Effect.

Sadly, we report that Local Heroes, the deli and sandwich shop at  2116 Boston Post Road (near Larchmont Avenue) will close at the end of the month. Owner Brian Reznitsky is selling the fixtures to the first buyer and hopes it will live on as a deli. He has had it ten years; it has been at that location for about 30 years. Brian will be joining an exterminating firm in Mamaroneck.

  1. underwhelming at 3x price of an equally good frozen pie at Trader joe’s – just throw on your own toppings from leftovers in the fridge.

  2. We tried this the other night and it was surprisingly good. I bought the veggie and regular. If you want to eat pizza at home, it’s better than takeout, since, by the time you get it home, it’s a bit greasy and tastes like the cardboard box. And it’s better than frozen.

    But the best pizza still, is Nicky’s, when you eat it there, right out of the oven.
