The Town and Village of Mamaroneck did put in offers to purchase  Hampshire County Club, Town of Mamaroneck Administrator Steve Altieri confirmed Tuesday.

Altieri told theLoop that they are still waiting for a response.

The Town and Village of Mamaroneck had begun negotiations to acquire the Club property for public use, calling it a "once in a lifetime opportunity."

  1. The Town certainly has a responsibility to make sure that the development of the property is in some manner appropriate, but the comments that urge keeping the property as open space through rezoning are forgetting that club members have rights too. As long as the new proposed use is reasonable, club members should be able to sell and recoup their investment to the extent they can, even if the club’s neighbors prefer to keep the property pristine.

  2. Remember what the Town did to preserve Bonnie Briar as open space, when there was a threat to build houses there? It rezoned it, and, after a fight, it won.
Time to do the same thing, together with the Village of Mamaroneck, as to Hampshire, and quickly.
The Town Council missed a golden opportunity when it failed to purchase Bonnie Briar–hopefully it will not make the same mistake twice.

  4. This would be a travesty if the club is turned into McHouses. Please call your Trustees to support this very worthy “once in a lifetime opportunity”
