MAMARONECK– Mamaroneck Village police and Mayor Norm Rosenberg have announced stepped-up enforcement of keeping drunk boaters out of local waters with “Operation Dry Water 2012.”

From June 22-24, “Officers will be out in force …looking for boaters whose blood alcohol content (BAC) exceeds the state limit of .08.  Operation Dry Water will include increased patrols, vessels boarded, breathalyzer tests, and checkpoints, as well as boater education,” says a Village release.

They point out that recreational boating fatalities last year jumped to their highest levels since 1998 and boating under the influence (BUI) was the leading contributing factor, according to the U.S. Coast Guard.
