New Midweek Larchmont Farmers Market Taking Hold

So why is this farmers market different?

Maybe it was the cutest dog contest. Or the yoga class spread out between the vegetable stand and the chocolates, or the live music. Or maybe because it’s on Wednesdays, and focuses mainly on Larchmont-based producers.

“It’s a different vibe,” says Joe Serra, who with his partner Bill Walsh, began operating the Sound Shore Market this summer on a stretch of park along the Boston Post Road near Kane Avenue.

“We thought it would be cool to have a mid-week market”, said Drew George of Larchmont-based Farm Eats, who came up with the idea.

But with the more established Saturday farmers market in Larchmont run by Down to Earth, are two markets a week too many?  Serra doesn’t think so. “We think it’s great to have artisanal food and an activity available during the week. And our focus is Larchmont-based vendors where possible.”

On Wednesdays here from 2:00 pm- 7:00 pm (until 6:00 pm starting after Labor Day), you can find fresh fruits and vegetables, flowers, locally produced olive oil, salami and chocolate.  Provisions are from FarmEats,   A local student provides expert knife sharpening.

Prepared foods come from local restaurant/caterers Plates and Apiary and Ms D’s Mediterranean Delights (Greek food).  You might also see demonstrations from Push Fitness, Addison Street Spa, beadz, Groove or Sew Happy.

The market must be catching on.  Luxxelles Artisan Chocolate founder Lisa Rogers was thrilled. “They cleaned out my bananas foster ice cream sandwiches within the first hour!”  If we only knew.

Sound Shore Market will operate Wednesdays through the end of October. Find it here:

Sponsors of the market include Korth & Shannahan Painting and CarpentryPost Wines & Spirits and Decorating Den Interiors.
