Mamaroneck– The Mamaroneck School District Board has recommended eliminating late buses for the 2013-2014 school year “whenever doing so would be reasonable and would save money.” It further recommends postponing making any further changes in district transportation (such as having some private school students take public transportation to school) until the 2014-2015 school year. Late runs appear to be defined as outside before and after school.
“The recommendations state, ‘While recognizing that many families have made tuition deposits to nonpublic schools for the 2013-2014 school year based on their belief that the District would offer private busing as it has in the past, the Board should not eliminate private transportation to nonpublic schools for the 2013-2014 school year for any student who requested it by the April 1 deadline (assuming that the student meets mileage requirements as stated in the law and any other prerequisites under current practice). We believe that to make a change at this late date would be unfair to the families affected…The Board should eliminate private transportation for some students going to some schools for the 2014-2015 school year, as it is permitted to do under Education Law section 3635.'”
The Board will continue this discussion at 7:30 pm Tuesday, April 2, with public comment to follow.
