Firefighters and police rescued several individuals from the apartment above Nan’s Gift and Party Shoppe on Mamaroneck Avenue after a fire broke out around 9 a.m. this morning.

One resident was taken to the hospital. There were no other injuries.

The dramatic blaze, captured here by an observer, was contained to one room and was extinguished in about 20 minutes, according to officials. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

“The fire department did a great job. Minutes after they got here, they knocked the fire out,” said Mamaroneck Police Chief Christopher Leahy. Village Mayor Norman Rosenblum praised the Department for their quick response.

Officials said later the fire began with a cooking accident.
