Mamaroneck Junior Triathlon

260 area children ran, swam and biked in The Mamaroneck Schools Foundation Sixth Annual Junior Triathlon  Saturday. The event is open to children ages 7 – 14 living within the Mamaroneck School District.

Following heavy rains and a threatening forecast, the sun broke through as kids and parents checked in at Hommocks Middle School beginning at 6:30 am.  By 7:30 the youngest group of 7 – 8 year olds splashed into the Hommocks pool, then biked down Hommocks Road, followed by a run through Flint Park and the Larchmont Manor.  The oldest group of 13 – 14 year olds crossed the finish line at Hommocks School before 10.  The morning included music and cheers by crowds of parents and volunteers on the sidelines.

According to Lyerly Tuck, Triathlon co-chair, “The Junior Triathlon gives kids the opportunity to get fit and have fun while raising money for the Mamaroneck Schools Foundation.  It’s a community event that includes hundreds of students, parents, and teachers involved as participants, volunteers and spectators.

Event co-chair Theresa Vozza added, “The kids have such an incredible sense of accomplishment when they cross the finish line.  Also, many of the kids collect pledges from family, friends and neighbors to go toward the Mamaroneck Schools Foundation.  This year a record number of pledges were collected.”

Mamaroneck Schools Foundation thanks our lead sponsor Badger Sports Club, as well as Triathlon donors Larchmont Mamaroneck Youth Lacrosse, The Coughlin Group, LeBlanc Orthodontics, Powers Fasteners, Mamaroneck Youth Hockey Association, Larchmont Animal Hospital, Mamaroneck Teachers Association, Rye YMCA, Sound Shore Junior League and Shoreline Embroidery.
