Established in 1979, the Mamaroneck Junior Soccer League (MJSL) continues to expand and serve an important role for children in our community. More than 830 boys and girls participate in the MJSL’s Recreational and Travel Programs, which are recognized for player development, teamwork and sportsmanship. The Travel Program, which has 35 teams of boys and girls that are 8-years and older, competes in the Westchester Youth Soccer League and at the Premier level. Need-based scholarships are available.
On Saturdays, June 4 and 11, the MJSL will host tryouts for its Travel Program for the fall season. Tryouts will take place at Harbor Island. Interested players are only required to attend one of these sessions, but are welcome to attend both. Girls’ registration and warm-up will begin at 4:30 PM; and tryouts will be from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM. Boys’ registration will begin at 6:00 PM; and tryouts will be from 6:30 PM to 7:30 PM. Players may register on-line, which is encouraged, or on-site for $20.
The MJSL hires independent professionals to complete the evaluation. Travel soccer coaches and volunteers will also be in attendance. On the day of the tryouts, players and their parents will be directed from the soccer shed area of Harbor Island to designated areas for children in specific age groups. Evaluators and travel coaches will lead casual warm-up, after which time players will be independently evaluated in drills and small-sided games.
