The Town of Mamaroneck Fire Department responded along with Westchester County Police.

The county police Aviation Unit helicopter was used to pinpoint the location of the fire and guide firefighters to the scene, which was in a remote section of the 700-acre park.

After the fire was knocked down by firefighters, the Aviation Unit utilized the helicopter’s “bambi- bucket” to drop close to 1,000 gallons of water–pulled from a pond at Winged Foot Golf Course– to prevent the fire from flaring up again. The bucket can hold up to 180 gallons of water at a time.

The fire scene is located in the southeastern section of the park in a heavily wooded area. Emergency personnel accessed the scene from Old White Plains Road.

The Town of Mamaroneck Fire Dept. says the fire did not appear suspicious.
