Update Oct. 10: These are the latest rankings in New York State:
After a 2-1 win Saturday night over league rival New Rochelle, the Tigers now sport a record of 11-1-1. According to Max Preps, MHS Boys Varsity Soccer is now 167th in the country and 2nd in New York State.
New Rochelle opened the scoring in the early stages of the first half when a shot from the top of the box found the back of the net. The teams went back and forth for much of the rest of the half before Connor Leblanc was able to pull Mamaroneck even at 1-1 when he cleaned up a rebound off of a free kick with five minutes left in the first half.
The first real scoring chance of the second half came with 16 minutes left in the game. With the ball bouncing around the Mamaroneck 18-yard box and Tigers goalie Dante Rhodes off his line, New Rochelle took a shot that appeared to be going in until Thomas Howse headed the ball out of harms way.
That save proved to be crucial, as Mamaroneck was able to take its first lead of the game less than five minutes later when Noel Vidal slipped a shot past the New Rochelle goalie. The Tigers then shifted their focus to defense, stifling New Rochelle’s offense for the last 11 minutes and 30 seconds of the game.
