Iona Division 1 Women’s Basketball fell to rival Fairfield in an exciting home game Friday night
The Larchmont Mamaroneck Basketball Association and other area girls basketball clinics, including Holy Family in New Rochelle, played a scrimmage at half -time. Quite the contrast to the college players, some towering at 6 feet.
Iona grad Jen Ritz, the girls clinic director at LMBA, helped organize the event as part of National Girl and Women in Sport Day.
The girls made “Go Iona” posters for the game and caught T-shirts in the stands thrown by the Iona dance team.
“We wanted to show the girls, because they spend time in the clinic on the half court at Hommocks, the size of a real court,” said League Director Jo Rein, a mother of four who played basketball for Princeton.
“The size of a regulation ball and height of the net might come as a surprise!”
