Larchmont Beach Awash with Plastic Objects

Update: A reader has seen similar objects at Five Islands Park in New Rochelle.

Thousands of plastic discs looking like little wagon wheels have washed up from the Long Island Sound in Larchmont at Horseshoe Harbor and other areas.

One observer thinks they are a plastic type of pitch wheels that work with gears or with sails on boats.

After we contacted Larchmont Mayor Josh Mandell, he immediately went to the area to have a look, and met with John Keenan of the Manor Park Society, which oversees the area.

“We will follow this in an attempt to determine the extent of this wash up along the Long Island Soundshore beyond Larchmont,” Mandell said.

“I grabbed a couple of them myself … they appear to be some kind of plastic/nylon honeycomb component, perhaps a spacer?”

A spokesman for the Society said the Park sometimes gets boating debris that is widely dispersed from boats farther out on the Sound.
