She talks about the things no one wants to: Death and Taxes. And she’s really good at it.
Elisabeth Cavanagh, Esq., who has lived in Larchmont 10 years, is an Estate Planning Attorney.
“I don’t think about the death part of it all that often, i think about it as a proactive measure in planning for your family,” she says. “I like to think of it as the holistic side of planning for our children and grandchildren.”
Cavanagh often reminds us of an old-fashioned country attorney; she has a warm and comforting presence. She can come to your house to discuss serious matters in complete confidence, even nights and weekends, then, she says, later bump into you at the hardware store.
Crossing the street the other day, a client saw her and said, “My daughter just got engaged. I need to call you about a prenup!”
And if the more formal approach is your style, she also has offices in Harrison and Manhattan.
Services include Wills, Revocable Trusts (also called “Living Trusts”), Irrevocable Life Insurance Trusts, Living Wills, Health Care Proxies, Powers of Attorney, and estate and trust administration.
After Law School, Cavanagh received her LL.M. in Estate Planning, and wanted to practice law while raising a family.
“Trust and estate law can be done on a part-time basis and what I do is project based, with a limited engagement and consulting if needed. I don’t need a big supportive staff to make it happen.”
“I love it when I’m working with clients that have children going off to college, because I offer an opportunity to meet with the child to do a Power of Attorney (designating the parents, when a child turns 18.)
“It’s a nice chance to establish a relationship for the future and ensure appropriate protection for the child after 18 right now.”
But your secrets are safe with her. “Even though I’m coming to your house, I work for you. People trust me with family secrets even their kids and siblings don’t know.”
