John Vincent Fitzgibbons, Retired New Rochelle Police Officer

John Vincent Fitzgibbons, age 76, formally of Mamaroneck NY, passed away on May 5th in Newport Richey Florida.

Mr. Fitzgibbons was born at home in Larchmont, NY. He was the son of the late Patrick and Elizabeth Fitzgibbons. He was predeceased by his sister Kathryn Fitzgibbons. Mr. Fitzgibbons is survived by his wife Evelyn (nee McKenna) Fitzgibbons, whom he married in June 1960. Mr. Fitzgibbons was a graduate of Mamaroneck High School. Upon graduation he joined the United States Navy; he served aboard the USS Newport News and was honorably discharged in 1956. When he returned to Larchmont, he joined the Larchmont Police Department. He continued his career as a police officer with the New Rochelle Police Department. Mr. Fitzgibbons retired from the police department after injuries sustained in the line of duty on February 14th 1977.

He was a member of the Police Emerald Society, The American Legion and the Police Benevolent Association. In addition to Mrs. Fitzgibbons, he is survived by four children and their spouses. Maura and CW5 Ken Jensen, Brian (Maj, USMC, Ret) and Colleen Fitzgibbons, Kathy and Col Andrew MacMannis, Police Sergeant Kevin and Linda Fitzgibbons. Mr. Fitzgibbons leaves behind 11 grandchildren and one great-grandson. Visiting Thursday 2-4 and 7-9pm at Fox Funeral Home. Mass Friday 10:00am at St. Augustine Church in Larchmont. Interment at Gate og Heaven Cemetery.
