So you think it's strange that this little take-no-prisoners hyperlocal publication of ours thinks a Deli opening is a lead story?

Well, given that the Palmer retail strip in Larchmont is now up to six empty storefronts on one block, and the ripple effect, both economically and aesthetically could be devastating, Larchmont Gourmet and Catering is a hopeful sign. And a familiar one. Working alongside owner Martin Gojcaj is Gwen Baez from the late great Kearns Deli. (Another familiar sign: the sidewalk blackboard.)

One of the most interesting comments we received about the recent losses was from a resident who said the "Mini- Columbus Avenue vibe" of the old Palmer Avenue helped to draw her here, but the way the Village looks now would have never attracted her.

So support your local ! The official opening of Larchmont Gourmet is Saturday, February 6. Stop by for free coffee and Boar's Head snacks. Tables and stools are coming and maybe some sidewalk seating come spring.
