Two Larchmont women have turned Grandma's cookie recipe into a small business with a big following.

Heather Mahland & Kyle de Lasa are stocking gourmet markets in the area with "You&Me Cookies," a hefty six-pack of "healthy chocolate chip cookies"  named the "Jumble,"  whose primary ingredient*  is Grape Nuts cereal. The cookies are baked in a USDA-certified kitchen in Larchmont.

Mahland and de Lasa say they had a great recipe, the desire to do something local and because deLasa's son has a nut allergy, which many children have, the idea came to life.

Stores stocking You&Me include The Meateria, Stanz and Aroma in Larchmont, Cherry Lawn and Standing Room Only in Scarsdale, and Crisfields and Wish in Rye. A pack of cookies is $5 (but $6 in Scarsdale and Connecticut, dontcha know...)

We can't wait to try one!

*ingredients: Ingredients: flour, grape nuts cereal, rolled oats, brown sugar, white sugar,
butter, chocolate chips, eggs, baking soda, baking powder, vanilla

I stopped eating Grape Nuts years ago because of the fat content. If it is now low in fact, then I withdraw that remark. But I still fail to see how the addition of Grape Nuts in a cooke recipe makes them healthy. There are still butter, eggs and white sugar to contend with. That was the real point of my comment. That's all.

ERDESQ--Grapenuts are very low in fat and have no saturated fat
and have TONS of fibre per serving--why would you think grape nuts was a significant source of fats ?

What makes these cookies any healthier than regular homemade chocolate chip cookes? The addition of Grape Nuts? Do you know the fat content in Grape Nuts?

If De Lasa's son has a nut allergy, why are there nuts in the cookies?
editrix ok, do we raally have to explain that there are no nuts in Grape Nuts? According to deLasa, "The Grape Nut is whole grain wheat flour and malted barley flour mixed together and toasted which makes it into a nugget. It was cooked up in 1898 by Postum Cereal and the name has not changed."
