You know all those “Beach Closing” notices we publish? Want to know what’s behind them?

Those interested are invited to join Save the Sound and the Town of Mamaroneck at a community forum on water quality on Wednesday, July 16 at 6:30 p.m. at Mamaroneck Town Center.

Topics will include the annual summertime drop in dissolved oxygen that is Long Island Sound’s most critical ecological problem, and the bacterial contamination that frequently closes local beaches each summer.

Just recently, a Save the Sound volunteer found and reported an overflow at Marshlands Conservancy in Rye, resulting in a repair.

Forum attendees are encouraged to come with questions regarding water quality issues in their area, as the forum will conclude with a question-and-answer session.

I guess our sewers don’t really need to get fixed and the Save the Sound people are full of boulder dash.
