The Woman’s Club of Larchmont invite all to their annual Holiday Book & Author Luncheon on Friday, December 14, 2018, featuring authors Susie Orman Schnall, Richard Sandomir and Julia Peirpont. Ms. Schnall’s newest novel, The Subway Girls, follows two ambitious women at pivotal moments in career and life, 70 years apart. She turns back time to New York during the time of Miss Subway contest (1941-1976) that decorated the subway with “pretty faces” of women in the city. Schnall first heard of the contest on an NPR interview and did a deep dive into research on the roots of the contest, eventually weaving the stories of the contestants into her novel. Her writing has appeared in publications including The New York Times, Huffington Post, and Glamour.
Richard Sandomir has written for the The New York Times since 1991 covering sports,
business and obituaries. He is the author and co-author of several books. In Pride of the Yankees he transports us back to an age of real heroes who had both grit and elegance.
Using original scripts, letters, memos, and other rare documents he tells the behind the scenes story of how a classic was born and brought to the big screen.
In The Little Book of Feminist Saints, New York Times best selling author Julia Pierpont and artist Manjit Thapp match short, vibrant, and surprising biographies with stunning full-color portraits of secular female ‘saints’: champions of strength and progress. These woman broke ground, broke ceilings and broke molds. Her writing has appeared in The Guardian, The New Yorker, and The New York Times Book Review.
