Donald Vecchio, a lifelong resident of New Rochelle, died on August 7, 2011. He was 86.
Donald was born on December 27, 1924 in New Rochelle to the late James and Lena (LePore) Vecchio. He was a proud Navy veteran of World War II. He retired from the NYS Thruway Authority after many years. He taught ceramics in New Rochelle and exhibited his welded sculptures at art shows for over 40 years. He also created beautiful stained glass and wood carvings. He was a true artist. He was a member of the American Legion Post 8 and a Past Exalted Ruler of the New Rochelle Elks Lodge.
He was predeceased by his wife the former Marie DeRosa, the love of his life, whom he married on October 30, 1949. She died on March 13, 2006.He is survived by his two loving daughters, Judy Carney and her husband Jim and Leeann Acocella and her husband Angelo; his two beloved grandchildren Tara and Michael Acocella who were the light of his life. He will be truly missed by his family and friends.
Visiting will be Tuesday 4-8 pm at Lloyd Maxcy & Sons Beauchamp Chapel Inc. Shea Pl, New Rochelle. A funeral Mass is scheduled for Wednesday 10 am at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, Pelham Manor, NY. Interment will follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. www.lloydmaxcy.com
