Many of us in these parts are all too familiar with Norwalk’s Maritime Aquarium — a near-perfect and manageable outing with the kids — and the seal pool that’s a sanctuary for sea critters that can’t survive in the wild.
But sea mammal and human alike were taken by surprise last week when an unsuspecting deer — the wild kind — took an unscheduled dip in the pool. Fortunately, though, the four-legged visitor held her own in the water (who knew deer could swim?) and wisely picked a wildlife refuge to make a splash. Aquarium staff were able to help the deer out of the pool and out to safety — hopefully in the more forested environment in which she belongs.
This story has a happy ending.
