DeCicco and Son’s new supermarket in Larchmont, opening at 2141 Palmer Avenue (former Guitar Store location) on Friday, is, say the owners, the “supermarket of the future.”

The 40 year old local family owned and operated chain will offer meats, poultry, seafood, fish, fruits and vegetables, deli, bakery, pizza and sushi, homemade foods, and, they say, the kind of good service one finds at its other locations (Pelham, Harrison, Ardsley, Armonk, Brewster.)

But the new store, says President John DeCicco, Jr., is “a store that incorporates intelligent, energy-efficiency and on-site clean, and green renewable energy, every minute, every day.”

With reclaimed barn wood and bricks with an upscale warehouse feel,  the location will be “one of the nation’s most energy-efficient, and cleanest and greenest supermarkets,” according to Marketing director Nick DeSantis,

The 25,000 square ft. market will have a second story mezzanine with a full-service craft beer and wine bar and a rotating selection of beers on tap. The area will also offer  dining and sitting areas as well as television and wifi access.

DeCicco & Sons’ is pursuing a LEED certification for the store, a benchmark for high-performance green buildings, for its “zero-ozone, state-of-the-art equipment,” as well as other features, including rooftop solar panels, to generate 75% of the store’s electricity during peak sunlight, energy-efficient L.E.D. lighting, recycled glass as a replacement for cement, reclaimed wood from century-old barns in upstate New York and buildings in NYC, and reclaimed bricks from century-old buildings in Merrimack Valley, Mass. and reusable tote bags.

“It’s a significant investment, DeCicco said, “but we firmly believe, a smart one with long lasting dividends for this generation and the ones to follow.”

This generation is pretty psyched…

  1. went back for the second time unbelievable happy shoppers many cards for the kids small cards for the kids mini mini carts carts nice employees nice staff met John DeChico
wonderful man very caring concerned for all in his market had coffee. I know a lot of people there as I know a lot of people in Harrison there other market so I say to all ,shop there they care!
    Happy holidays!!

  2. Let’s try to keep the prices low, ok boys? The community doesn’t want to pay for the new building via jacked up stickers. I suggest getting a cabaret license for the beer hall. Larchmont needs a good cheap music venue!
    Good luck!
