The Westchester County Board of Legislators (BOL) is holding a public information session to review the “winning” proposal selected by the County Executive Astorino from Sustainable Playland, Inc., as well as 3 other proposals that were not selected, but which the Board still wants to review. (See our previous coverage.)

The public session will begin at 6:30 PM on Wednesday, February 13, in the Little Theater at the County Center, 198 Central Ave., White Plains.

The event will feature “trade show-style presentations” from representatives of the four revitalization proposals—Sustainable Playland, Standard Amusements, Central Amusements and the Paidia Company. Each of the four vendors will have an area for displaying their materials. Their Playland proposal presentations can be viewed here.

At 7:30 PM there will be an hour-long Q & A session to be moderated by Legislator Catherine Borgia (D-Ossining).
Last month the BOL’s  Government Operations Committee evaluated the top four proposals and began in-depth discussions with the four  respondents regarding proposed operations, financial viability and intended modifications to the park and infrastructure.

According to Borgia, who chairs the committee, the public input and review process now is very important because “once the contracts are signed there will be no chance for second-guessing.”

The proposal from Sustainable Playland is the only one that emphasizes Playland as a park, using the concept of  the Central Park Conservatory as an economic model, with a Great Lawn on the waterfront and ball fields at the northern end of the parking lot. Overflow parking next to Edith G. Read Sanctuary would still be available for large events.

The proposal  addresses the need to protect Long Island Sound and important natural habitats along the coastline that can suffer from erosion, flooding and pollution. (A copy of the full proposal is provided on the organization’s website.)
