from the Larchmont-Mamaroneck Food Pantry:
Our neighbors in need of food this holiday season will be the beneficiaries of a food drive taking place on Saturday, November 17 and Sunday, November 18 at four local food markets. The food drive is sponsored by the Larchmont Mamaroneck Hunger Task Force (aka the Food Pantry) in partnership with the United Way.
Donations of non-perishable food will be accepted at Stop & Shop on Boston Post Road in Larchmont, A & P on Mamaroneck Avenue in Mamaroneck, Mrs. Green’s on Boston Post Road in Larchmont, and ShopRite on Palmer Avenue in New Rochelle. Food drive hours are 9am to 4:30pm both days.
Need for food assistance in Larchmont and Mamaroneck remains high, explained Melinda Lehman, President of the Food Pantry. “Every time we give out groceries, we feed 1,200-1,300 people, one-third of whom are children. New families register with us every time we are open. With the colder weather we are already seeing an increase in the number of families needing our help, and we expect to see this need rise during the holidays.”
“Although there is a great need for help, we live in a caring, cohesive community where we look out for one another and give assistance where help is needed,” she added. “This food drive is a wonderful example of neighbor helping neighbor.” All of the food collected at the food drive will be given directly to people living in Larchmont and Mamaroneck.
From 9-4:30 on November 17th and 18th volunteers are needed at each of the four food markets to collect, sort and load food, and from 4:30-6:30pm volunteers are needed to load the food that has been collected into trucks. Volunteers are also needed on Monday, November 19th from 9am-noon at the CAP Center, 134 Center Avenue, Mamaroneck, to unload the trucks and sort the collected food.
