Charles Schoenherr, a lifelong resident of New Rochelle, died peacefully after a long and courageous battle with cancer on January 2, 2012 with his family by his side. He was 76.
Charles was born on January 4, 1935 in New Rochelle to the late Charles W. and Ann E. (McGowan) Schoenherr. He served in the Navy during the Korean War. He was a New Rochelle Firefighter for over 24 years and was the past President of the Uniformed Firefighters Association of New Rochelle.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife Joan, his son Robert and grandson Robert Kirby. He is survived by his devoted children: Charles Schoenherr III and his wife Rosemary, and Kelly Kirby and her husband Chris. He was the loving grandfather to Bobby and Melissa Schoenherr and Brendan and Siobhan Kirby. Dear brother of Marianne Reifenberger, Barbara Rado, John Schoenherr and Louise Schoenherr. He was predeceased by a brother Arthur.
Visiting will be Wednesday 2-4 & 7-9pm at Lloyd Maxcy & Sons Beauchamp Chapel, 16 Shea Pl, New Rochelle. A Mass is scheduled for Thursday 10:30am at Blessed Sacrament Church. Interment will follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Cancer Society .
