Rumorville: You Say it’s Your Birthday

25 years ago, someone probably walked out of  Larchmont’s Vision of Tomorrow Salon with a new Cybil Shepherd haircut and went over to Anderson’s Book Shop for a  new copy of Lake Wobegon Days.

At a time when there are still vacant store fronts in town, a business that’s been here 25…even 65 years… is something to celebrate!

Anderson’s Book Shop ( 96 Chatsworth Avenue) turns 65 on May 7, truly worth noting when a local bookstore seems almost anachronistic.  Sure, you can shop on Amazon, but what a pleasure to discuss a book with someone who knows it (and knows you,) and walk home with it.

Charles B. Anderson, a retired professor, founded Anderson’s  in 1946 at 1910-12 Palmer Ave., and later moved it.   When he retired to Florida, he sold the store to Bill Buschel, his former manager. Jim Miller bought the store from Bill, then sold it to Peter Greeman, whose widow, Tammy, is the current owner. Jenny Siegel is another friendly face.

A birthday party on Saturday, May 7th from noon to four, features music, snacks and prizes.

(TRIVIA: Look over the front window. The word BOOKS appears in five silver circles)

And speaking of birthdays… Vision of Tomorrow Salon celebrates its 25th anniversary this month. Owner Michelle Cirillo’s mother, Pina, opened the salon in April 1986, (I’m thinking Michelle was, what, just born?) and they’re both going strong.  Someone there had a ‘vision!’

Their celebration is at the salon & spa (132B Larchmont Avenue, Larchmont) on Saturday April 30th.

See what can happen when you support your local?       Congratulations!
