Judy Gartman’s enthusiasm for reading and writing is infectious, And really, that’s the point. When children need extra help, her idea is to make it fun. And if they don’t need extra help, she makes it fun anyway. “My passion is to make learning fun and accessible,” she says.
The Larchmont resident began as a classroom teacher, and began tutoring 25 years ago. At Sts. John and Paul School in Larchmont, she is teaching a literature class and hopes to “develop critical thinking skills using the Socratic questioning method.”
For a preschooler that wants to read, Judy will start with words already in the child’s life: names, cereals, “playing with letters, sounds, words and computer games, where learning is just fun.” She can work with a child in her colorful home office, or in the child’s home.
Reading, writing, study skills and working with learning disabilities, she does it all.
