The “Fairness for All Kids” Coalition, which describes itself as “a new coalition of community leaders, clergy members, parents, and educators” will rally to oppose “an unlawful plan,” in their words,  by the Mamaroneck Union Free School District to cease yellow bus service for students at parochial and independent schools.. The rally will be  7:00 pm, Tuesday, March 4,

Immediately following the rally, coalition members will attend the MUFSD Board of Education meeting, scheduled to begin at 7:30.

Where: The library at Mamaroneck High School (third floor), 1000 West Boston Post Road, Mamaroneck

and from the Hommocks PTA:

This Tuesday, March 4th, at 7:30pm in the MHS Library Classroom, during the Board of Education’s meeting, revised Policy 8412 on Student Transportation will be read.  The policy will also be read and up for further discussion at the March 18th meeting.

This proposed policy change would allow for some students who currently receive private carrier bus transportation in the form of a yellow bus, to instead receive public carrier service (bus or train) in the 2014-15 school year.  The Board has indicated that this may apply to Hommocks students.   To view this policy to determine if it might apply to your student, please CLICK HERE.

If you would have any concerns, comments or questions about how this policy would affect your child and your community, please attend the meeting and/or e-mail the Board at Board@mamkschools.org.

Consider sending the letter below which you can personalize.

Dear Board of Education Members,

I would like to urge you to adopt the proposed new transportation policy which may allow some children to commute to school via public carrier (bus or train).

I do not believe this change will have a negative impact on my child or my school.

Thank you for your service,

To Support NO Change in Policy and urge the District to continue to provide yellow bus service for eligible students:

Consider sending letter below which you can personalize.

Dear Board of Education Members,

I would like to urge you not revise the District transportation policy. My child is eligible for District provided transportation and I urge you to keep the mode of transportation safe and reliable.

The local traffic to Hommocks is already treacherous.  Removing this bus will only lead to further congestion and unsafe travel conditions for my child and other students.  Please do not place this burden on our community, my family and my child.

Thank you for your service,
