Author Pamela Sargent, whose book Earthseed has been optioned by Paramount Pictures, will be at the Mamaroneck Public Library from 2-4 pm this Sunday 3/24.

from Mamaroneck Public Library:  Pamela Sargent is the author of many highly praised novels for teens and adults, including Earthseed, an ALA Best Book for Young Adults.  She has won the Nebula Award, the Locus Award, has been a finalist for the Hugo Award and the Theodore Sturgeon Memorial Award and is the winner of the Pilgrim Award for lifetime contributions to Science Fiction/Fantasy Studies.  She is also the author of  Ruler of the Sky, her 1993 historical novel about Genghis Khan that was a bestseller in Germany and Spain.

For twenty years, fans of the critically-acclaimed science fiction adventure, EARTHSEED have wondered what happened next.  Pamela answers that question with the two sequels FARSEED (published 2007) and SEED SEEKERS (2010).  Earthseed is soon to be a film by Paramount Pictures.

Earthseed really talks about the debate of nature vs. nurture, what is innately human and what can be bred in or out of someone.  It involves a young woman who starts off as someone who is content with playing by the rules and being a “good girl”, and then has to realize that the rules are malleable and that she has to step forward as a leader – Scriptwriter Melissa Rosenberg

Michael Moorcock has said about her writing: “If you have not read Pamela Sargent, then you should make it your business to do so at once. She is in many ways a pioneer, both as a novelist and as a short story writer…She is one of the best.”

Ms. Sargent sold her first published story as a senior in college at SUNY Binghampton, where she earned a BA & MA in philosophy and also studied ancient history and greek.  She lives in Albany, New York.

Pamela will be reading and discussing her recent books and signed copies of her books will be available for purchase.  To sign up for this free program, call the Teen Room of the Mamaroneck Public Library at  (914) 630-5875.
