ABOUT THE ARTIST

Blessed with what the New York Times described as a “beautiful countertenor,” singer Art Garfunkel has left an indelible stamp on the music world both as a solo artist and as half of the unrivaled Simon & Garfunkel. He has enjoyed a successful film career and has published a book of poetry whilst also releasing 12 solo albums, most recently Some Enchanted Evening in 2007.

Garfunkel was first revered for his Grammy-winning, chart-topping songs and albums recorded with partner and fellow NYC native Paul Simon. Their Greatest Hits collection, which includes “Mrs. Robinson,” “Scarborough Fair,” “The Sound of Silence,” “The Boxer” and “Bridge Over Troubled Water,” among others, has gone Platinum 14 times over and is one of the best-selling albums of all time.

After Simon & Garfunkel parted ways in 1970, Art released his solo debut, Angel Clare (1973), which spawned the Top 10 hit “All I Know;” his other solo albums include Breakaway (1975, featuring the hit “I Only Have Eyes for You”), Watermark (1978, featuring “[What A] Wonderful World” with James Taylor and Paul Simon), Fate for Breakfast (1979), Scissors Cut (1981), The Animals’ Christmas (1986), Lefty (1988), Garfunkel (greatest hits, 1988), Up Till Now (1993), Across America (1997), Songs from a Parent to a Child (1997), Everything Waits to be Noticed (2003), and Some Enchanted Evening (2007). He has also landed major film roles in movies including Mike Nichols’s Carnal Knowledge, in which he appeared opposite Jack Nicholson, Catch 22, and Nicolas Roeg’s Bad Timing: A Sensual Obsession. An avid reader, since June 1968 he has chronicled each and every book he’s finished, and they’re now listed on his website —all 1,195.

In the late 1980s he took on two new challenges: he published the poetry collection Still Water in 1989, and he went on an amazing trek across America —on foot. The 80s and 90s also found Garfunkel doing what he does best: singing and connecting with an audience. “Taking on the fear and vulnerability of a live show keeps you vital,” he says.

Art Garfunkel once famously performed before 500,000 people for the legendary 1981 “Concert in Central Park,” which ranks among the most attended concerts in the history of music. The chance to experience a one-night only close encounter in a theatre like the Emelin with an artist who is a household name throughout the world is not to be missed.
