Alfred Rose of Carmel, NY, longtime resident of Harrison, NY and Aiken, SC passed away on March 5 at home surrounded by family at the age of 81.
Born January 16, 1930 in Port Chester, grew up in Harrison where he lived until he retired at age 62. He married his high school sweetheart Carmela DeFonce on their mutual birthday on January 16, 1949. Al worked for the Grand Union Company for 20 years and then found his true passion working with the Westchester Carpenters Union Local 11. He was an avid fisherman, hunter, and outdoorsman which he enjoyed with his grandson, nephews, son-in laws and friends. Al was a member of the Knights of Columbus (3rd degree) since 1947. Many years were spent in SC volunteering for Habitat for Humanity constructing/renovating homes, and helping the poor through the Catholic Church. He also did a lot of work counseling patients and families in the Mended Hearts organization.
Beloved husband of the late Carmela (DeFonce) and Jeanne (Olsen). He was also predeceased by his loving sister Marion Allegretti. Those surviving who shared in the joy of his life and now cherish his memory include his daughters Doreen Oppenheimer (Mark) of Carmel, NY and Denise Clark (Gary) of Bridgeport CT, grandsons Michael Crawford and Gary Clark, and many loving family members.
