The Mamaroneck-Larchmont Student Aid Fund (SAF) has given more than 1,700 college scholarships over our 80 years, but has been a low-key organization that not everyone in the community knows about.
That was one reason for a Birthday Bash fundraiser at the Shore Club last week.
Past presidents of the organization from five decades were honored and Claudia Huter, owner of the Larchmont Music Academy and a 1991 scholarship recipient, and Kevin Duarte, a first-generation college student who received a scholarship in 2013, shared their stories of how SAF funds helped make their dreams of college reality.
The Mamaroneck High School Jazz band played as 250 guests enjoyed hors d’oeuvres, wine and champagne provided by Wine Gems and a giant Birthday cake from Bradleys. According to SAF president, Amy Guenzl, “Thanks to our generous donors, we were able to raise more than $160,000 which we will use to award scholarships to the Mamaroneck High School class of 2017 as well as future classes.” She adds,
