$1 million worth of jewelry and other merchandise was reportedly smuggled through a hole cut through the roof early Friday morning at New Rochelle Coin Stamp and Jewelers at 20 1/2 Division Street.
Amanda Pappas told reporters the store, owned by her father, Tony Silva, was broken into around 4 a.m. and that more than $1 million worth of items were stolen.
Pappas said her father has had the business for almost 40 years. “We’re all very upset. It’s a tragedy. We lost a lot of money,” she said. She said the burglar alarm went off during the theft.
The owner told New Rochelle police that when he opened the store Friday morning he discovered what happened.
Police asked anyone with information on the break-in to contact the department’s Property Theft Unit at 914-654-2275.
